An update on coal and the implications for related bonds

We look broadly at the current state of the coal market and the implications for coal related bonds available to FIIG investors

In broad terms, there are two distinct coal product categories with very different fundamentals: thermal coal and metallurgical (met) coal. Thermal coal is the largest bulk commodity by trade volume and the most important power generation fuel on an energy basis, ahead of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). Met coal, along with iron ore, is an input in the production of steel.
