We are now more focused on our participation across these channels, the power of the social media for instant news updates and the importance of commenting on the market and sharing what other experts are saying.

If you are already signed up to these channels you can:

  • Like our Facebook Page “FIIG Securities” and like, share and comment on content that we post
  • Connect to our LinkedIn Profile “FIIG Securities” and like, share and comment on updates that we post
  • Follow @FIIGSecurities on Twitter and retweet and favourite our tweets

If you are not yet connected, sign up to these channels today so that you too can share in these useful tools.

Over the next three weeks we will compile notes on each social media platform, explaining basic functions and how you can get involved, starting this week with Twitter.

Twitter

Twitter is a very useful social media tool. It consists of a feed of short updates or “tweets” from people, organisations or groups that you choose to follow. Twitter has a limit of 140 characters per tweet meaning that you won’t be spammed with large slabs of text in your feed.

Twitter uses are forced to be succinct and get to the point of what they are trying to say in fewer words. This is a major benefit for people who are time poor and also those people who don’t want to have to read huge paragraphs of text in order to decipher the “newsworthy” content behind a post.

Ultimately, Twitter provides you with quick answers to your questions and is a tool that can be used to keep up with the latest news.

Signing up to Twitter is simple, follow the steps below.

  1. Open the Twitter site https://twitter.com/
  2. Type in your full name, email address and create a password then hit sign up.
  3. You will then be taken to the sign up page where you can create a Username*.
  4. Follow the prompts to continue setting up and customising your account.

*Also referred to as a “Twitter handle” it is your unique identifier on Twitter and how other users can search and find your profile.

Once your profile has been created use the search bar to find us, @FIIGSecurities, click on our profile page and follow us to see our latest updates or retweets (where we republish other people’s tweets) from the fixed income market.

When we tweet you can “retweet”, “reply” or “favourite” our tweets as shown in the diagram below.

FIIG will tweet or retweet content that is market-specific and interesting; including fixed income news written by our Research team or others, major market announcements and commentary. For example, when the RBA meets each month and tweets it’s decision on rates, we will retweet this post.

In next week’s WIRE we will cover LinkedIn and the following week, Facebook so look out for these notes. In the meantime follow usExternal link - opens in a new window and join in the conversation!
